It’s a reviews and videos kinda day here at the Daily News Autos. Today, we have a review of the first-ever SRT-trimmed Dodge Durango debuting for 2018, as well as Cadillac’s new Super Cruise semi-autonomous system. This self-driving system is unique in that it’s the first system to let you drive truly “hands free” for extended periods of time. We got to take a 2018 Caddy CT6 decked out in Super Cruise tech on the open roads of America to find out how the system performs in practice.
We have those stories, a video of Volvo’s newest concierge service that takes the hassle out of car buying, a very *special* person taking their Porsche 944 through flooded streets and much more ahead in this Wednesday edition of the Daily Drive-Thru.
Video: Care by Volvo debuts in upcoming 2019 Volvo XC40
Instead of going through the whole song and dance of buying a car at a dealership and dealing with fees, taxes and other superfluous charges attached to the car-buying experience, Volvo wants to make things as minimalist as the interior of its 2019 XC40 crossover.
Called “Care by Volvo,” the new service debuting in the XC40 crossover is an alternative to car ownership where buyers pay a flat-rate monthly fee with no down payment or registration, and all those pesky fees get covered. You also get some add-ons included in some regions such as fueling, cleaning, service pickup and more.
Driving a semi-autonomous Cadillac Super Cruise-equipped sedan
Rather than filming other people driving cars, earlier last week, Daily News Autos video producer Dan Gessner got to be the one behind the wheel of a Cadillac that just so happened to drive itself.
Cadillac invited Dan to try out the American luxury automaker’s new Super Cruise self-driving technology equipped in a 2018 CT6 sedan. On a cross country excursion with a parade of journalists, he got to take the wheel of the CT6 from NYC to our nation’s capital to Cleveland, Ohio. Sort of. See, Cadillac’s system is the first of its kind to let the driver take their hands off the wheel, unlike Nissan’s ProPilot or Tesla’s Autopilot systems.
First Drive: 2018 Dodge Durango SRT
In case you needed to break the sound barrier on your way to pick up the kids from hockey practice, Dodge scratches that itch with the high-powered, lean, mean Durango SRT SUV. This HEMI V8-powered hauler isn’t a three-row for the faint of heart. Boasting a 0-60 of 4.4 seconds (!!!) and a quarter mile time of less than 13, the Durango SRT lives up to the Dodge Street & Racing Technology name, even if it does look a little bland.
Daily News Autos contributing writer Beverly Braga revved this monster of an SUV around South Jersey to see if this SRT’s flash has some substance behind it.

Video: Porsche 944 attempts driving through flooded Massachusetts street
In case you didn’t get the memo (because this guy apparently didn’t), there was some pretty extensive flash flooding in the North Shore area of Massachusetts last week, with some areas getting as much as 8-9 feet of water flooding the streets of Mass. Our friend in today’s viral video perhaps thought that his Porsche 944 was able to wade through the choppy waters.
Spoiler alert, he failed. Miserably.
